Comfortable Shoes Studio is the name of my little studio in Beverly, Massachusetts; here I paint large watercolors, smaller acrylics, and mostly bind books and journals. I specialize in custom bound journals and sketchbooks with adhesive-free sewing in which the sewing is visible and decorative on the spine. If you're interested please email me!

Welcome to my friends and fam from FB. I mostly post art stuff here. I've been carving up some @inovartpp red rubber. It carved really well and produces crisp prints. I dig it. I've got some images to put on notebooks and stickers. Art Pack supporters will get a selection of coffee cup and pencil stickers in their packs. Really dogging the pencil and coffee cup. More art stuff soon. #art #stickers #printplay #print #printmaking #stationery

What do you do when @mitchelka gifts you with hundreds of little glass circles? If you are me you think of ways to print them. In this case I ran them through the etching press glued to a base. Ahem too much pressure cracked them but after I backed off the pressure I was able to relief print them. The kicker with this is that they need to be about the same height or the surrounding circles don't print even when just a smidge off. Even with that, I dig the look. This was just a test, again. I can't wait to see what the students come up with when I give them a box of circles. #printmaking #print #printplay #prototype #fromideatoprint

We're planning something at work and I doodles something. Then I had some free time in the shop. So I threw together a little something on the tabletop Kelsey8x10 and was pretty happy. Yes, it's magenta on the back of an old print. Far from perfect, a lot of the wooden type we have is uneven and doesn't ink well at all. It was quite frustrating to pull everything off, clean it, add in a bit of tape to lift the type a smidge here and there. I'm not sure if the type has been crushed but most of it was much shorter than the antique S I used. But still, this is also a useful example for the kids of how fast you can take an idea from a doodle to a working prototype. This concept will be reworked a few times, clean up, added to and finally printed for the event. #letterpress #kelseytabletop #printmaking #print

First time using @charbonnel1875 aqua wash etching ink. The black is lovely but very sticky. The #trashprintmaking print came out great, though I noticed a few areas I wanted to change. But that glue technique is making me super happy. That random pattern is awesome. Can't wait to see the other plates. This is one of the larger plates I've worked on and I dig it. #printmaking #print #art #artistsofinstagram

Sigh. Good bye sweet jadeite mug. It had a surprisingly long run before my partner smashed it. I'll never find a deal like this one again. #coffee

A few plates I've been working on. These are more #trashprintmaking and use old food packaging with a glossy coat. I've used more wood glue with the resist technique and let it randomly bead up. These are quite a bit larger than most of my other pieces. Anyway, images of lady liberty.. I'm thinking of doing a blind emboss over the top of chain link. We'll see. #print #printmaking #collagraph #recycle

I picked up a few slabs of this red rubbery off brand carving block. I like it quite a bit. It carved easily, holds details well enough and is cheap for a 2 pack of 6x9 pieces from block. I'll write up a review. But I'm planning to do a few No Brand Notebooks with this and some cool ink. This set up is for a 2 color front label similar to a composition notebook. #printmaking #art #relief #fun #makergonnamake

For my apple nerd friends... Some Jobs history at the Museum of Print in Haverhill. Including a Lisa and. Next machine. @awelfle I thought of you when I saw the Lisa machine

Today for work I visited the museum of printing in Haverhill, ma. I was given a tour by the delightful Frank Romano then wandered around to see everything. There is a lot to see and learn and experience here. If you have a chance to visit, you should definitely go and visit. #printmaking #letterpress #print

Another cabin image, a go to for testing out techniques. This one is all additive. Some embossing paint I picked up on discount years ago, glue and sand, plus some acrylic to seal it all. It'll get some crackle effect in the open areas before getting shellacked and printed. It'll be interesting to see how this one prints, it's one part random and another detailed. #printmaking #collagraph #artistsofinstagram #art #plate #print.

Some finished prints, almost dry. 3 of each so far. They will be listed on my ko-fi page tomorrow (link in bio). The small prints will be $20+s&h ($3) large will be $25+s&h the large have a hefty shipping fee ($9) due to size. Sold unmounted and not framed. Raw prints. They will be signed and not numbered for edition. The plates will destroy themselves after 13 or so prints, so no matter what it is limited but my philosophy I regards to edition numbers is evolving. In the end the plates may be sold or just used as examples of material effects in classes. I'm also planning on posting the older prints I haven't had a chance to get images of. Printed using @akuainks by @speedball_art on @cansonusa multimedia paper. Anyway, if you want more info about materials I wrote up a lengthy post for ko-fi and will document more regarding the wood glue. The effect is visible in the detail photos and the ketamine image. #printmaking #collagraph #intaglio #print #art #artistsofinstagram #trashprintmaking

One of the plates worked up. I opted for something very graphic and with the soft thin lines of drypoint. I love how this has worked up sofar. This coffee bag has a slick plastic layer over a thin aluminum adhered to paper. This all glued down incredibly well to the old make ready from the print shop. The layers peel back beautifully to expose the paper of the old print. The slickness of the plastic let my etching needle glide over the surface. Super 77 seems to work really well as an adhesive too, I'm not getting any residual stickiness. More info over on ko-fi soon. #printmaking #trashprintmaking #thisisyourbrainondrugs #workingaseries #makergonnamake #print #testingtrash

Working on a few series of brains and skulls with some passengers. The progression will be shared on my ko-fi page for supporters. But the final prints will show up here. This is #trashprintmaking the plates are made up of coffee bags glued to old make ready from the print shop. I used Super 77 spray adhesive and it did pretty well. After tacking everything down I ran it through the press. The big pres at work has thick felts on it and I feel like it didn't smash stuff together as much as I wanted. Everything needed a burnish afterwards. Anyway, once the plates are made, they are trimmed to size. I work up my image with a sharpie the scratch and cut into the surface. I might work some areas with glue. After I'm happy with the lines visually I'll coat everything with shellac. Front and back. I might adhere these to a backing to get a better impression from the plate. Also it will add to the sturdiness. These once cut feel fragile. #printmaking #art #print #recycle #thisisyourbrainondrugs
