Sad gochu. This poor thing is quite stressed out. The cleaning crew keeps turning my light out so this little one doesn't get enough light when I'm not here. The office is also super dry, so it dried out yesterday. When I arrived this am it was leaning over, and I thought it was a goner. I gave it a bit more water and covered the soil with pony beads. It perked right up. Just in time. I also swiped the timer from the grow station in one of the group rooms. It is way too cold in there for peppers. I may also swipe the whole station for my office and move the plants out in spring. I won't be growing ghosts, scorpions, or reapers at work, but maybe some sugar rush peach or aji lemon drops, maybe even some machos. #growshit #hydroponic #urbanoasis #citysteading #cityfarm #pepper #hotpeppers the light will go on at 3am and out at 5.

The #basic Halloween Pumpkin Spice Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce is finally bottled. Working on a label for the Raspberry Reaper Molé and it is kicking ass. The basic sauce is pleasantly hot with loads of warm pumpkin spice flavor. I put some on chicken last night and it was great. My basement is hideous, but I've made great strides in clearing it out since this summer. I just picked up this zippered wardrobe for free and I plan to transform it into a grow tent for my peppers and tomatoes. I'll line the inside with mylar, add a few vents and drop in my used shop lights. Thus far the project has cost only $10 and a few gallons of gas. The mylar will likely cost another $10. Also still fermenting. Much of this will be finished soon. I have some serious kahms yeast on a few of these and its bumming me out. The ginger lemongrass is definitely done, I can't wait to blitz it this weekend and bottle it up. The thai mango might be done too. The Korean inspired hasn't puffed in awhile so might be neatly done. Red Death V2 might be close, gonna let it age a lot longer since we're only 1/2 way done with V1. Lots of good stuff here. Brought a pair of gochu/long peppers into work. These are a little over an inch high and showing their true leaves. Roots are sturdy. They are in a weak hydro solution of miracle gro and Epsom salt. They are about 2 inches below the bulb, which is just out of frame. Of I get peppers, cool, mostly trying to get a nice plant. For the summer we have south facing windows with full sun. Checked the roots of my kcup seedlings. Found out a few things- less kcup left, the better. Those with far less surface of plastic were healthier and stronger plants despite all of these being started around the same time. Wooowhooo some chilis ripening up. The little clip on led grow light is enough for this plant. Gonna save more of the macho seeds for trade and my own garden. . Sore as hell from the pruning I just did, but I reclaimed some garden space from the kiwi vines and I see where I'll put in my raised beds this spring. Also, talked to my dad about the pop up green house he gave me and he suggested building 2 small raised beds that the green house will fit over for my peppers. We also discussed heating options. Thinking about some solar and batteries with a cheap inverter. Mangoes, pineapple, and oranges were on sale for $1 to $2 each. I picked up one each and about $1 in habaneros added garlic, onion, a bit of sugar and vinegar and made my first cooked hot sauce. It's sweet tangy and full of citrus flavor and it quite hot. The habs actually looked great at stop 'n slop today so I could not resist making a pot of sweet heat. . I ate a chunk of habanero and found it to be quite nice, and was able to taste over the heat level. I'm slowly building up a tolerance to the heat. . Made some chili and slathered a bit of this on it and whoa. So good. I reserved a bit of it pre-addition of hand, to use as a marinade later. Oh man #Basic Pumpkin Spice Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce is done. The fermentation settled and stopped for a full week. Added some white vinegar to loosen it up, not quite pourable but it'll squeeze out of the bottles. I made a half gallon. . Heat is hot for non pepper heads but mild for anyone into hot sauces. It hits like a ghost pepper, builds up and then burns. Flavor is sweet, spiced, and tart. A hint of floral from the peppers. It'll be perfect on eggs. New winter grow set up. Daylight led (5000k, 100watt equiv) in cheap $7 reflectors. Set up about an inch from the seedlings. These are peppers but the lettuce, bok choy, and swiss chard should pop soon. Then I'll pick up another couple of reflectors. I'll need to figure out a support system for the lights since the mic stand I'm using is only enough to support these 3 lights. Total cost for the reflectors and bulbs was under $20. . You can't see it but the macho peppers are ripening up under the LED grow light. The roots aren't all that healthy. I'm thinking about drilling some holes in the sides of the pot. The local stop 'n slop had hydroponic basil for sale for $3 I thought I might transplant it into my set up. The plug fit perfectly into my recycled kcup kratky plastic hydro set up. To keep the light out of the tub with the nutrient solution I have covered it in coffee bags. The top has the silvered mylar up to reflect the light back into the plant. Not surprisingly the plant has already perked up it surprised me that the tub holds a half gallon of solution! This set up other than the plan and solution is all recycled.

I'm going to mess around with 100% recycled kratsky passive hydroponics this winter. I've got bok choi, swiss chard, and lettuce in cups transformed into net cups. I plan to do some videos of the process. The kcups are about the same size as a 1.5in net cup. So we'll see how they work. . I'm also over a month (maybe 2) into the #winteriscanning pepper growing challenge, which is to grow a pepper plant in a 12oz beverage can no bottom watering or passive hydro allowed. Goal is to grow as many peppers as possible in 1 year. We'll see how that goes. . I hate kcups with a burning fiery passion at least this is a way I can reuse them and give them a bit more life. Bottled the blue scorpion sauce tonight. The heat builds and lingers. It is sweet and sour and has intense umami. I can't wait to put it on some wings. The thyme is amazing with the blueberries. I'll definitely be making more hot sauces with herbs. More ferments with herbs. It is a bit runny and watery, but the flavor is intense.
